Results: All materials tested demonstrated different degrees of sorption and solubility. The glass ionomer cement had the best value for sorption. The zinc oxide eugenol and eugenol free cements had lower water sorption than the zinc polycarboxylate and zinc phosphate cements were evaluated. Some materials retained water in their structure and thus compensated for any loss of mass due to dissolution.
